IRON DAMES STORM TO POLE POSITION IN MONZA

The Iron Dames claimed the top spot on the grid for the 6 Hours of Monza after dominating the competition in qualifying at the fifth round of the 2023 FIA World Endurance Championship.

Sarah Bovy took the top spot in the session, meaning the Iron Dames pink Porsche 911 RSR-19 #85 will start P1 in the GTE Am category for the race.

This is the second pole position this season in five races for the all-female line-up of Sarah Bovy, Rahel Frey and Michelle Gatting.

Sarah confirmed her exceptional performance and consistency in qualifying sessions by becoming the first woman to achieve consecutive pole positions at a single FIA WEC circuit, having also taken GTE Am pole in Italy in 2022.

Today’s result also adds an extra point for the pink trio in the hotly-contested 2023 championship. Currently in third position in the standings, they sent a strong message to the rest of the field ahead of tomorrow’s race.

The fourth member of Iron Dames’ FIA WEC contingent, Doriane Pin, completed her first-ever qualification in the LMP2 class. Competing in the #63 PREMA Racing Oreca 07-Gibson, she put her and her team-mates Daniil Kvyat and Mathias Beche in seventh place on the starting grid.

Sarah Bovy said:  “I am super happy and super proud of the team. When you have a great car and are on a track that you like, it’s very nice just to push like that. It was just fantastic to drive the car today. It was more a case of being at the right place, at the right time and I think in that situation today, we were the best.

“Tomorrow we will be focusing on the race pace, it is always very tight in our class and we want to be consistently fast and avoid mistakes. We have learned a lot since the beginning of the season and I am confident that everybody in the team is ready to give their absolute maximum tomorrow. The race is going to be long, hot and hard. I cannot wait to face the challenge.”
